Ian gray builders are the most reliable and professional people I have employed. He has carried out 2 projects for us... one an attic extension with a rear extension also. The work was excellent and his team a pleasure to be around ( no bad language) and at the end of each working day the site left neat and tidy.
I had no hesitation in employing him on this project on my bungalow. It was a large extension to the front and side of the house with complicated roof work. Ian and his team have just finished a complete renovation job for us. The team is hard working and very helpful and... friendly.

The work has been done to an exceptionally high standard.
We had a few challenges with one steel being missed of the drawing, which Ian spotted and discussed the best way forwards with building regs, some of the corner steels where not going to look as we wanted, so again he sorted a solution, making the extension to the kitchen look as we had originally wanted, what an amazing space.
The build did come in on budget for all the planned work, we did have a couple of unforeseen issues which again where sorted at an extra cost.

There has been minimal cost growth from the initial quotation and all design changes have been incorporated without delay or disruption. All work has been finished to an exceptionally high standard and carefully project managed, which was particularly impressive given the supply chain disruption associated with COVID-19. Ian's professional recommendations of products, suppliers and subcontractors are all based on experience and customer feedback; he has a loyal network of tradesmen with equally high standards and reliability. The site has been safe and tidy throughout the renovation and considerate of neighbourhood access in a busy street.

Ian and his team/associates are just coming to the end of our major refurbishment of a bungalow in Hill Head –... transforming it from a tired three bedroom to a modern four bedroom. We chose Ian because he inspired confidence in us, both in terms of quality of previous work that we saw, and his obvious handle on the project management side of things – really important for us as we would be doing this at a distance.
Throughout he has behaved with great professionalism, with very high standards. His team are all reliable and skilled, and where we needed recommendations for specialised trades he came up with people of very high order.
It has been a long project, with COVID affected deliveries and the necessity to lay a very deep floor screed both slowing things down. Throughout Ian kept us informed of progress and, where he could, pushed for the earliest possible completion – whilst maintaining high standards.
As we come to the end of the project I have once again been looking at the library of photos taken by Ian, documenting the work. I have marvelled at just how much needed to be done, and how well it has all gone.

Ian, thanks yet again for your aftercare service, for for finding the time to very promptly pop round to put a roof... tile back in place, inspect the roof, & give some important & level advice regarding mice in our roof space and how to tackle it in awkward to access places (mice, not as I had more seriously thought, squirrels) - of course this was certainly not anything to do with the quality of the build. Ian and his team have recently completed our house extension (Wheatlands). Ian was recommended to me by my Architect... Paul Gosling. I soon found that Ian was well known in the area as a quality builder. This was our first ever experience of having building work done, so we didn't really know what to expect!
Ian, James, Mikey, Adam, Luke & Josh arrived every morning ready to start work at 07:30. They all grafted hard every day & soon we started to see our house extension develop. Ian quoted me a price at the very start of the process & came in bang on those numbers. We agreed some additional work to be done part way through the build & he even fitted new gutters and facias for my neighbour at the same time. Any extra work was always costed and agreed before it was carried out to a high standard.
Ian recommended and then project managed the Electrician (Dave Haworth) and plumber (Simon Townend) as needed. His plasterer, Steve was also brilliant!
Overall we are really please with the extension work we've had done & can't wait for the flooring and decorating to be finished.
Decorator, Jo was also recommended by Ian.

Stubbington Project - 2019 5 out of 5 Stars!
There is always a concern when choosing a builder for a large... renovation or build project if you have the right one for the job, but I can honestly say I had no such qualms when appointing Ian Gray Builders Ltd to under our work (see "Stubbington Project Album" - Front, Back and Side Extensions and New Roof).
I had seen the standard of Ian's work a few years previous when his team did a front extension to a bungalow down the road from us, and I was impressed then on the standard of work and speed it was completed in, so Ian was top of the list when sourcing a builder for our own work.
From the very first meeting I was impressed Ian's knowledge and professionalism. His quote was thorough and cost wise similar to others received, On this point - it should also be noted that the final total bill was in line with his quote, so accurate costing with no nasty surprises!
Ian managed all aspects of the build and we were so confident in his ability that we went on holiday for around 5 weeks at the start of the project and Ian kept us fully up to speed with posts on Facebook. Throughout the project Ian made sure we were kept fully informed of progress and guided us through the process.
His team are awesome! Top notch workmanship, from the quality of the brickwork, to the excellent carpentry work, the glass finish of the plastering... in fact all the team did an excellent job. To add to this they were also polite and conducted themselves professionally throughout the project. They arrived on time, worked extremely hard throughout the day, and always (even though we were not living in the property at the time) left the site tidy at the end of the day - even our neighbours commented on polite and professional the team were.
The standard of finish in all aspects of the build is just perfect we could not be happier with our new home.

Just a quick note to say a huge thank you to Ian and the team for the excellent work they did on building our extension... recently. From the outset Ian's advice and guidance and his ability to show previous examples of his work allowed us to get the most from our space and at a lower cost than our original ideas. We enjoyed the company of Ian's team, despite the Saints/Pompey divide!! Luke's tea making abilities are a work in progress!!!

We had a ground floor extension and a new garage built last year by Ian and his fab team. When we first discussed our... plans with Ian he came up with some alternative ideas, which seemed a much better option and we are so pleased he discussed this with us. From this first meeting with Ian, we were impressed with his communication and his interest in us getting the best out of our extension. This continued throughout the project. Ian advised us that the project was approximately 4 months (this impressed us), which was very accurate.

Ian was involved in my project early on, recommending architect and coming up with suggestions to plans to create... something extra special, for instance Ian suggested vaulted ceiling in master bedroom which is brilliant. He envisaged the finished look and helped me make informed decisions, nothing fazed him and his team, and he was always ready to come up with ideas and solutions to any problems that occurred. his team were tidy and a joy to have working on my project as i have spent a bit of time with them on my days off. i cannot recommend him and his team highly enough, i wouldn't even consider anyone else for any future building work that i might have. Friends passed us Ian’s name and mentioned his Facebook page. We read the reviews and to be honest they almost seemed... too good to be true, but they are not. Ian and his team of James, Mikey, Pete, Luke, Conner and Curtis are worth their weight in gold.
From our initial meeting with Ian, we were impressed with his communication, timely approach and practical eye over our planned roof extension that continued throughout the project. Ian advised us that his current lead time was approximately 6 months, which for us would be a spring build. Fantastic!
From day one, Ian’s team always arrived on time, were courteous throughout and so tidy. The building work was progressing at a rate of knots, however each day the site was tidied, minimizing the impact on us. Ian’s team worked well and always came up with practical solutions to any difficulties thrown up during the build. Indeed, we were so impressed with the quality of work that we arranged for a few extras to be undertaken. These were always priced by Ian and like the main project always within budget. The overall attention to detail was second to none. Finishing touches to a project are so important and these were a natural extension of the high standard of work provided, in particular by James and Mikey. We love the clean lines of the cladding.
My only concern, can I complete the decorating to match the high standard already set by Ian and his team?

We want to say thanks to you Ian, again, for your excellent aftersales service, dealing with a drain emergency... recently. Our house build completed in 2012, the speed of execution and quality was awsome. We are still delighted with the build & the principle of doing it right the first time, only needing attention for a couple of very minor settling in things (all done quickly & efficiently). We called Ian one evening recently for some emergency advice - a blocked drain that had backed up into the downstairs toilet. Ian gave us some great advice to try & clear it, and then offered to personally come lunch time the next day to remedy the issue, no doubt having had to rearrange a lot in his busy schedule. He worked out correctly where the issue was located, lifted just one plank of decking & accessed the relevant manhole, then personally cleared the blockage (with some effort) and took only a token payment, refusing more. We were so relieved to have this quickly resolved - showers, toilets, bath all in use again. I can only imagine another company would have cost, and the inconvenience ! Thank you so much Ian for the aftercare you provide ! I heard someone referred to you as the 4th emergency service - you truly were our savior on this occasion. Thanks Ian !read more

From the very outset our development was going to be a tricky one. We have a kitchen with 3 doors in it, each... necessary to the rest of the house. Several kitchen planners over the last 3 years had tried and failed to come up with an innovative but working design - until Ian Gray came along and gave us the benefit of his unique vision.
In his quietly spoken but assured voice, Ian began to discuss what could be done with our kitchen, gently leaving his ideas for us to mull over. After several patient visits we decided to go back to the architect and have the plans amended and this turned out to be the best thing we ever did - apart from employing Ian and his team that is!
Eventually we made decisions on kitchen units, work tops, taps, sinks, lights, kick board lights (especially love the bling lights Dave Haworth), oven’s, microwave, cooker hood, hob, flooring, blinds – until it all came into place.
From the 'before' and 'after' photographs it is clear that the kitchen is unrecognisable from what it was originally.
At the same time as our own kitchen was being worked on, Ian simultaneously developed my sister’s kitchen - organising his team at different stages of the build at both addresses. The second kitchen was special too as Anne’s sister lives at the house and she has learning difficulties. The complete upheaval in having to leave her home temporarily and the renewal of her kitchen was a huge change for her but having met Ian and some of his team at the outset, it made it more personal and helped to reassure her. Her reaction may be seen in a video elsewhere on Ian’s Facebook page - it is a joy to watch! This build came in a day early and in time to meet the Social Services deadline.
Thank you Ian for your care and attention, for the planning, for answering endless questions “what if?”, “do you think that?” etc, for liaising with building control, with the water board, and for your consideration with both sets of neighbours, for your care of the properties and for your tidiness and attention to detail. Ian always turned up on time and our build was also completed in the planned timeframe.
We have no hesitation in recommending Ian Gray Builders Ltd and his team for their expertise, care and attention.

Ian & his Dad did our last extension 25 years ago. We were pleased with the result. Our latest extension is fantastic. ... Ian & his crew have done a superb job. Every last thing hasbeen thought through & the result ha exceeded our expectations.
Throughout the project the sites was left clean & tidy every day. The guys were always thoughtful about the neighbours, to the extent that they even stopped work when our neighbours dog had its food as it didn't like loud noises when it was eating.

Ian and his marvelous team; James, Mike, Dave, Pete and Steve the plasterer have completed a second project for us and... we would like to express how delighted we are with the work that was carried out.
The project was kept within budget and was very well planned considering there were 6 of us living at the property throughout. Ian kept us informed at every stage and was an excellent support to us.

Ian and the team were back after completing our last big project eight years ago when they extended into the roof... space. This new project involved knocking through the dining room, kitchen and removing the old conservatory to create a new kitchen,utility and family living area. The building work took a few months but I can only remember one day when we were without a kitchen sink and washing machine. This made things bearable. The team did the bulding work, kitchen fitting and the floor laying and even managed to find the time to fit a new front door and a couple of failed double glazed windows. There are always challenges along the way but Ian is quick to respond and remedy any concerns and as always the quality of workmanship is excellent. We are also grateful to Mikey (who has not aged since being the young apprentice eight years ago), James, Pete, Brett from Whiteley Gas (new boiler and extension to the heating system) and Dave Haworth and his team for the electrical work (especially when my husband drills through a brand new cable run). I have no hesitation recommending Ian and his team for any building work.

Ian and the team have completed two projects for us now and we are really pleased with the results. The chaps are... friendly, clean and tidy and they all take pride in what they do and that shows in the results. Ian coordinates all the trades and has kept us up to date at every stage of the project, which is important to us as we were not able to be on site every day. Ian and his team were recommended to us by someone who had used them to repair work done by other builders. I have to... say that from the moment we met Ian we were hugely impressed by his enthusiasm, commitment and work ethic. Builders are not renowned for their reliability but Ian and his team are an exception here. His communications are prompt and he is always suggesting better ways of converting your dreams into a reality. Our house extension project turned into a full blown house renovation at our request and even though the work was more than Ian initially planned to do he managed to extend his time on our project to complete all our requested extras. We were living abroad when the work was undertaken which was great to allow the builders to get on with their work uninterrupted but could have been as issue when it came to answering questions or choosing products. This was not a problem for Ian at all as he became our de-facto project manager. His weekly Facebook updates with photos of our project and products allowed us to manage the project from afar with ease. Ian takes great pride in his work and this is really plain to see. When elements of the work are sub-contracted by him to other trades specialists he oversees the work as if it were his team doing the work directly. His invoicing was always timely and accurate to the penny. He only ever invoiced for work that had already been done or once he had paid upfront himself for materials. Any price increase on the project was due to us increasing the work to be done or by choosing more expensive products. Ian’s price stayed the same from our original quote. In summary the only way our project turned out to be the success it is was due to Ian and his team’s dedication. I cannot recommend his work and professionalism more. They are exceptionally clean workers, tidying up every day before they leave, and they are 100% trust worthy. If we were to undertake another property project it would Ian and his team that we would choose to conduct the work. Thank you Ian for creating such a lovely home for us. Having building work undertaken can be an expensive and stressfull time.
We had Ian and the boys (sorry Alan -and... one old man) to build a new front porch and rear extension to our home. Ian had done bits and bobs for us years ago and we knew through friends he was a nice guy and good builder. His price was middle of the road, but he instilled a sense of confidence in us from minute one. He gave us good suggestions that we took on board and incorporated into the final design. He worked really well at this stage with our architect Paul Gosling in thrashing out a solution far better than our original thoughts.
From day one the team were on site at 7.30 each morning and left after a full day of hard graft. Instantly we felt comfortable with them all - sometimes it can be tricky having strangers working in your house - but not these guys. Ian leads from the front on the hard work approach and they all follow his example. They were the cleanest builders I've ever seen, leaving site spotless each night, making it possible to live with the work going on. The attention to detail of each of the trades Ian employed is clear, not one guy let him down and the finished result is something both my wife and I are over the Moon about. It oozes quality workmanship, I am a bit picky, but I haven't yet found a single thing I can complain about, which is a shame as I like to try to wind Ian up if possible - he loves a bit of banter!
Without a doubt we will use Ian Gray Builders again for any building work and would heartily recommend them to anyone!
I wish him and the Guys all the best for the future, I'm sure they'll be busy for very long time to come.

Ian and the boys have done a new kitchen installation for me. First-rate service from start to finish..... Ian came... back straightaway on my initial enquiry and all subsequent follow-ups, came back quickly with quotes and got started sooner than I had expected. Top quality job done all round, with an eye for detail, and the minor teething troubles that you're inevitably going to get with any home improvement were dealt with without any hassle - and a few extra pieces of work that I asked for were done as well - what more could you ask for? Following several leaks, Ian and his friendly team have re-roofed the house including fitting new hanging tiles which... has totally modernised the look of the front. As with the two major extensions previously undertaken for us, the work was completed to a very high standard with any disruption minimised.
